Zerezghi "Zack" Iyassu was born in January 28, 1947 to his father Mr. Iyassu Ticu and his mother Mrs. Birikti Tesfamichael in Shimanugus Lalia Eritrea. Zach was one of 5 beloved brothers (Ghide, Asmerom, Joseph and Simon) and 2 beloved sisters (Rahwa and Mihret).
Zack was a good student and good servant of his Lord and his community. Starting at the age of 14, he ministered the Gospel till his last day on earth. As a student he completed grade school, elementary and Junior high school in Shimanugus Lalai and BetGhereghis (5th & 6th grades) and Beleza Evangelical Junior High School (7th & 8th) respectively. He completes his high school in Asmara Evangelical High School. He continued his education in Debrezeit Evangelical College, Ethiopia, and achieved his teaching certificate.
Zach came back home and became a teacher and later became the Principal of the same high school he graduated from. He served for about 5 years total, before he came to America in 1976 for higher education.
Zach completed his BA in Mathematics & Physics from Concordia College, and his MA in School Administration from the University of Nebraska (minus the thesis). He taught for a total of 14 years in Lansing Michigan and Chicago schools, before venturing into the business world. Zach was also a successful businessman, and he lived and achieved the "American Dream". He built a successful business which is still thriving.
Zach and his beloved wife Alganesh of 40 years of marriage are blessed with two sons, Simon and Amanuel. Zach was known for loving care and generosity. He loved to help those in need whenever and wherever he could, and he never stopped ministering the Gospel.
After a long hard fight with illness, on July 3rd 2021 Zach passed away peacefully in his home, just a day before their 40th wedding anniversary. He his survived by his beloved wife Alganesh and two sons, Simon and Amanuel. He is also survived by his beloved brothers and sisters, and many close family members.
