William Warren Hoffmann, 73, of Peoria Heights, passed away on Monday January 30, 2023 of natural causes.
William "Bill" was born on Friday August 12, 1949 to William and Cheris Hoffmann in Peoria. He grew up in the pandemonium and love of a big family as the oldest of 6 kids, all of them quick with a joke. Bill graduated from Peoria Central High School and served in the United States Army.
Bill found his calling in mid-life as a computer programmer at Illinois State University and was proud to work there. He spoke fondly of his friends in Normal. It would be misleading to say he loved work though. Instead, he loved reading. He’d read just about every book and left hundreds. He also loved music. He kept an extensive record collection including everything from Three Dog Night to Bob Newhart. He was proud to have seen The Who out at the Expo Gardens in 1968.
Bill loved and was always excited to hear about the adventures of his grandchildren, Alex, Amelia and Lily. He spent more time with them, along with his son (Jay) and daughter-in-law (Kim) during the last 3 years. He is also survived by his (gigantic) little brother Phil, his (quick-witted) little sister Allison Hanson (Michael), his sister-in-law “Saint” Tina, his mother Cheris and a bevy of nieces and nephews. He’ll be chasing down siblings Robin, Scott and Joel.
