Ruth Heidtke Obituary
Ruth M. Heidtke, 96, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 5, 2025. She was born on November 30, 1928, in Chicago, Illinois. A devoted member of Jerusalem Lutheran Church in Morton Grove, Ruth married the love of her life, Werner Heidtke, there in 1948. They shared 65 wonderful years together before Werner’s passing in 2013. Ruth is lovingly remembered by her four children: David (Micki), Tom (Gail Ito), Andy (Debbie), and Barb Hausheer (Bob); her five grandchildren: Brittany Kovalcik (Matt), Tyler (Julie), Danny (Maria), Molly Stickland (Dan), and Alex (Scott Meyer); her six great grandchildren: Henry, Teddy, Owen, Eloise, Harper, and Emma; and her dear sister, Doris Brunke. For many years, Ruth served as the secretary at Jerusalem Lutheran Church, where her warm smile, quiet strength, and deep faith left a lasting impression. Her role extended far beyond her official duties—she was a source of comfort, kindness, and encouragement to all who walked through the church doors. Later in life, Ruth began a new chapter when she and Werner moved to Harvard, Illinois, and took a position at the Harvard Library. There, she became a beloved presence, known for her helpfulness, graciousness, and genuine love of learning. Whether guiding a young reader to their first favorite book or assisting a researcher with thoughtful care, Ruth brought heart and purpose to her work. Her years at the library were marked by lasting friendships and quiet contributions that touched many lives. A memorial service to celebrate Ruth’s life will be held at Jerusalem Lutheran Church, 6218 Capulina Ave, Morton Grove on Saturday May 17. Visitation at 3:30pm with the service at 4:00pm. Memorial contributions to the church appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to Evanston Funeral & Cremation, Roland F. Weis director. Info 847 866-8843, condolence and guestbook at evanstonfuneral.com
