Obituary

Ruth Ann Feminella of Chicago passed peacefully Wednesday evening July 26, 2023 after an extended illness. She was 94 years old.  She was born December 22, 1928 in Paris, IL.  Preceded in death by her parents George E. and Edna G. Stickler, husband Carney J. Feminella, and siblings, Betty Painter (Lloyd), George W. Stickler and Patty Dillman (Willis).  Having lived many places including Indiana, and Mississippi she was an Illinois girl at heart. She returned to her beloved Chicago a few short years ago. She was a consummate Hyde Parker never letting you forget it is "the best neighborhood in the city". It was there she met the love of her live Carney, they were married in March of 1949. Soon after started a family and moved to the southern suburbs first to Hometown and in 1955 settling in Dolton "to raise kids". After many years as a wife and mother she decided out of interest and necessity to return to school. Graduating in 1977 with a BS degree in nursing, she was 49 years old.  She became a devoted RN, working in doctors' offices, most notably for Wm G. McCarthy MD and at the Thomsen clinic in Dolton. Later she went on to work in the clinical settings of inpatient psychiatry and addictions. Becoming nurse manager of inpatient addiction services at Hamilton Center in Terre Haute, Indiana in the 1980's and as a nursing supervisor at Marion Hill rehab center in Vicksburg Mississippi in the 1990's. She continued to work until retiring at 80. She loved cards, pinochle, poker and euchre. She never met a casino she didn't like. She was an excellent dancer, and jitterbugged well into her 70's. She was an avid reader of any mystery or biography in print. There wasn't a game show or true crime story that went unseen. She loved music, big band and Sinatra were favorites. There wasn't a movie made during the golden age that she didn't know or hadn't seen. She was intuitive, blunt to a fault, loved her family, gave great advice, made friends easily and loved a good laugh. She lived a great life. She will be missed and is survived by her sons, Randan G. Feminella (Melodye), John A. Feminella (Beverly), Steven G. Feminella (Kelly) and Paul M. Feminella (Lynn). Along with seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews. Interment of cremains and private graveside services are planned for later in September in Vicksburg Mississippi. Arrangements entrusted to Evanston Funeral & Cremation, Roland F. Weis director.
