It is with profound sadness and much love that his family announces that Neil Edwin Trais, 67, passed away at home in Skokie on Wednesday September 22, 2021. He was born July 21, 1954 in Chicago, the son of Sol Trais and Patricia (Heeg) Trais.
He is survived by his loving family, including his partner of over 40 years, Brenda Webb, and his daughter Mia Anjelica Trais, as well as brother David Trais, sister Maureen (Trais) Matz, brother-in-law Paul Matz, his nieces Alycia Matz, Tricia (Montgomery) Matz and her husband Brian Montgomery, and nephew Aiden Trais. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Kathryn (Trais) McDougall, and brother-in-law James McDougall.
Neil was an artist. He had attended the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where he studied painting, and went on to become a professional graphic designer, winning several awards for his photoshop work and illustrations. The job he loved most was as a comic book artist. He created the covers and inked dozens of comic books for Comico Comics, as well as creating his own comic book art.
Neil loved to travel and visited Hawaii, Mexico, Peru, and Europe, and he was never more blissful than when he rode an elephant in the mountains of Thailand.
He was a creative cook, collected comic books and Japanese toys, kept reptiles, loved sci-fi and horror movies, and had an undying fascination for Godzilla, likely owning every Godzilla film ever made. He was a great dad and found in daughter Mia a kindred spirit who shared with him his interests and inherited his artistic talent.
Neil loved animals, none more than his Westies Ripley and then Milo, each of whom were his constant companion.
A memorial for Neil will be held Saturday, October 30. For details, please contact brendajoycewebb@gmail.com.
