Miriam Louise (nee Breslich) Van Buren, 97, died on Saturday, January 23, 2021, in Evanston, IL. She was born on October 20, 1923, in Milwaukee, WI, to Arthur and Lydia (nee Filter) Breslich. She was the youngest of three daughters.
Miriam graduated from Riverside High School in Milwaukee, WI, in 1941. She married Donald William Van Buren, from whom she had grown up across the street, in July 1945; together, they raised two children: Richard (Jacquelyn) Van Buren and Susan (the late Mark) Phelps.
Miriam was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Ruth (Henry) Bender and Eunice (Raymond) DeVoy, and her beloved husband Donald in 2012. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, her five grandchildren, and her nine great-grandchildren, all to whom she was faithfully devoted.
Miriam loved games of all sorts and was both an avid bridge player and a bowler. Even family holiday celebrations were opportunities for a little friendly competition, often including board games or a lively bingo tournament. She was always quick with a laugh—often at her own expense—and had a song for every occasion. She will be remembered for her steadfast love of her family, her youthful exuberance, her love of high heels, and her enchantment with fireworks
Funeral services will be private.
