Matt Bukovac passed away unexpectedly but peacefully at his home in Wilmette, Illinois on Sunday August 22, 2021.
Matt was predeceased by his beloved mother Paulette Tirc Bukovac. He is survived by his father Vladimir Bukovac & step-mother Jacqueline Bukovac; older brother RJ (Barbra) Bukovac and nieces Alex & Nicki Bukovac; step-brother Creg Maroney; step-daughter Captain Victoria Bell (US Army JAG) and step-son Trevor Bell; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Matt was born and raised in Kingston, New York and attended the United States Military Academy at West Point and the University of Arizona. For the past eleven years, he has lived in Winnetka and Wilmette, Illinois in relative close proximity to his brother and family. He was Assistant Superintendent at the Canal Shores Golf Club in Evanston, Illinois and a member of the local American Legion Evanston Post 42.
Matt was a life-long NY Yankees baseball fan (which raised more than a few eyebrows when he relocated to Cubs country along Chicago's north shore). He also never missed watching the annual Army/Navy college football game. Matt enjoyed listening to country music, singing and playing his guitar. And his love of the Hudson Valley region and the majestic Hudson river never diminished, often reflecting on the days of his youth swimming, fishing and boating at Hidden Harbor Yacht Club in Port Ewen, New York where both Matt and his father were members.
Matt was one of the most principled and loyal individuals you could ever meet, and he would have happily given the shirt off his back for a friend or family member in need. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Contributions in Matt’s honor can be directed to the Poppy Fund at the American Legion Post 42 www.post42evanston.square.site/https://post42evanston.square.site/product/donate-to-the-poppy-fund/664?cs=true&cst=popular
