Maria Augustina Calderon, 81, passed away in her sleep at home from natural causes on April 14, 2025, in Chicago, Illinois. Born on July 4,1943, in Guayaquil, Ecuador, she carried with her the spirit and resilience of her birthplace throughout her life.

 

Maria’s journey took her from the vibrant streets of Guayaquil to the heart of Chicago, where she built a life marked by strength and quiet grace. Her presence left an indelible mark on those who knew her.

 

She is remembered by her sons Andres Barrezueta (Giulianna Mazzocchetti) and Henry Barrezueta; her grandchildren: Andres, Aerin, Olivia and Aurelia and her close cousin, Norma Crespo Tello. Maria was preceded in death by her parents, Umberto and Augustina Calderon, her sister Francisca Calderon Diaz (Miguel) and her son Eduardo Barrezueta (Altaira).

 

A Memorial Mass honoring Maria’s life will be held on May 3, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM at St. Jerome Roman Catholic Church, located at 1709 West Lunt Avenue, Chicago, Illinois 60626. She was interred privately at Calvary Cemetery in Evanston, IL, Grave V, Lot 7, Block 20, Section I.
