Lawrence Joseph Henschen, PhD, 78 of Evanston, passed away suddenly Sunday January 8, 2023 in the early morning in Evanston Hospital emergency room due to heart failure. Lawrence was born Wednesday October 11, 1944 in Joliet of Illinios, the son of Howard Henschen and Amy Henschen, nee Handwerk.. He attended his elementary, middle school, and high school in his home town. He received a full scholarship to study at the University of Illinios at Urbana-Champaign and obtained his BS, MS, and PhD in Mathematics in that university. In 1971, after he graduated from the University of Illinios, he was employed by EECS department of Northwestern University and continued to work in Northwestern University for over 50 years, promoted from assistant professor to associate professor, and then full professor. He served as associate dean of the graduate school for 9 years. He had taught wild range of Computer science classes and advised many graduate students. He also published over 150 conference and Journal papers. He will be missed by many people who know him, respected him, and loved him. He is survived by his loving companion of over 25 years, Julia Chung Lee. Interment private. Arrangements entrusted to Evanston Funeral & Cremation, Roland F. Weis director.
