John Tuzson, 96, passed away February 18, 2026 at his home in Evanston, Illinois.  John is preceded in death by his sister, Anna Tuzson and his wife, Ruth Post Tuzson; and is survived by his sister, Emilia Mathis, daughters, Emily Tuzson, Martha Tuzson, and Ann (Bernard Fulgham) Tuzson; and his grandchildren, Graham Stockton, Lucas Stockton and Louise Fulgham. 

John’s life was both long and wide. He was born in Budapest, Hungary on April 29, 1929. As a young man, he lived in Paris, France where he studied engineering at the University of Paris. In 1956, he moved to Boston to attend M.I.T., earning a PhD in Mechanical Engineering. Later in his career, he was awarded a patent and published books in the field of fluid dynamics and pump design.

After he met and married his wife, Ruth Post Tuzson, they settled in Evanston, which he called home for over 60 years.   He loved being a father to his three daughters, who will always cherish memories of museum visits, travel, art projects, and nature walks that he shared with them. He enjoyed Lake Michigan and rode his bike or walked along the lakefront well into his 90’s.

He will be remembered as a charming man, always ready to share stories of his life. He loved books. He was an avid reader throughout his life. He was particularly interested in European and Hungarian history and wrote several books on these subjects. He also traced his family roots and translated his own family letters and diaries, and those of friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago, or the Evanston Public Library.
