George Scott Obituary

George Scott passed away peacefully on October 22, 2024, after a long illness. He was 71.

Born in 1953 to Elizabeth, nee Martin, and George Scott, he was their second child and only son. George is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen, his children, Eunice Scott (Erik Parker), Michael Scott (Ginger Weber), Katherine Burrell (Tony Weber) and Lanxter Burrell; his siblings, Elizabeth Scott, Victoria (Russell Swirin), Judith (David Kawaguchi), Cynthia (Abel Reynoso), and Constance (Simon Chappell); his grandchildren, Aiden, Michael, and William; and many nieces and nephews.

George’s hard-working nature showed from a young age. He shoveled snow, mowed lawns, and worked at a bowling alley while in high school. At 17, he enlisted in the Marines and proudly served his country. After his honorable discharge, he joined the Cook County Forest Preserve Police and worked on the drug task force. Later in life, George discovered a passion for computers, and his enthusiasm for technology grew. He found fulfillment in providing technical support to special education staff at Chicago Public Schools until his retirement in 2015, where he was known for his problem-solving skills and friendly rapport with school staff.

George’s warm and generous spirit was evident in the way he hosted parties, cooked meals, and shared his love of food with others. He had a beautiful voice, excelling at Karaoke and Irish folk songs, and always knew how to bring people together through music and laughter.

George’s joy was truly his superpower—his happiness was infectious, and he had a remarkable ability to lift the spirits of those around him. He will be missed by all who knew him.
