George William Mitchell, 96, of Wilmette, Illinois (formerly of Deerfield, Illinois) died peacefully December 5, 2022. He was born March 11, 1926, in Jersey City, New Jersey and lived much of his young life in Hasbrouck Heights, New Jersey. George was well-known for his whistling skills, quick wit, love of music, reading and crossword puzzles. He graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University in 1949, which was made possible by the G.I. Bill after serving in the Army Signal Corps during World War II. He was married to Jane Howard Mitchell, also from Hasbrouck Heights, for 69 years, prior to her death in 2020.He is survived by his three children David Mitchell (Beth Douglass), Peter Mitchell (Laurel Tyler) and Kate Mitchell Huskin (David Huskin), as well as eight grandchildren. The family will celebrate the lives of both George and Jane Mitchell at a memorial service on February 4, 2023 at 10 am at the Glencoe Union Church, 263 Park Ave., Glencoe, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages you to donate to or volunteer at your local library. Interment  Rosehill Cemetery, Section 18, Lot 31, Space 3.
