Cesar Gonzalez Obituary

Cesar Gonzalez passed away at home in Evanston, Illinois on April 16, 2026. Born February 13, 1946 in New York City, Cesar moved from the Bronx to Chicago at age 13, and made lifelong friends at Tuley High School.

An extremely talented pastry chef, woodworker, and educator, Cesar’s career was varied, but the one constant was his curiosity and ability to connect with those around him.

An avid bird watcher (especially pigeons!), traveler, reader, and all-around lover of life, Cesar was never happier than when he was learning something new, eating delicious food, or relaxing with his family while watching the nightly news or reading the newspaper.

Cesar is survived by his wife of 43 years, Renee Ribant, his two children, Hank and Simone, daughter-in-law Sabine, granddaughters Leela and Solèy, sisters Mimi and Elena, brothers Robert and Joseph, and countless other relatives and friends. He is predeceased by his sister Christina and parents Cesar and Vicki.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Swedish Hospital’s Galter Life Center, one of Cesar’s favorite places, are appreciated. Please use the following link, https://donate.endeavorhealth.org/swedish and add Cesar Gonzalez under Tribute/Honor.
