Andrew D. Griffin Obituary

Andrew Dion Crispin Griffin, 69, a proud Evanston resident and Northwestern graduate, died peacefully on February 27 in the treehouse apartment where he lived with his beloved wife. Andrew was born on September 7, 1956 at Evanston Hospital. He went to Orrington School and competed on the debate team at Evanston Township High School. He received his B.A. in Philosophy from Northwestern University, his M.A. in English Literature from Northeastern Illinois University, and completed postgraduate work at Loyola University of Chicago.

While at Northwestern, Andrew gave his life to Jesus and dedicated himself to spreading the Gospel. He served the Lord as a missionary in Bangladesh and as a bible teacher for countless international students in the Chicagoland area.  He married the love of his life, Wendy Elaine Griggs, in 1981 and then joyfully welcomed the arrivals of his son Andrew Augustine and daughter Wendy Maria.

Andrew had a formidable intellect that was masked by his humble and gentle spirit. He employed his God-given gift with the written word as a copywriter for multiple publishing houses, fundraiser for Seabury Seminary, and as a member of the staff of First Presbyterian Church.  More importantly, he instilled in his children a love of learning and inspired them to pursue the truth of the Bible, no matter the cost.

Andrew Griffin is survived by his devoted wife Wendy; dearest sister Dorty; well-loved son Andrew, his wife Paola, and daughter Wendy; four adoring grandchildren Victoria, Andrew, Carinna, and Caden; sisters-in-law Dorothy and Joan; and nephew Matthew and nieces Allison, Marion, and Elizabeth.  He was preceded in death by his father Leland; mother Dorothy; supportive brother Charles; and brothers-in-law David and Geordan.
