Minna May Long

Minna May Lovelace-Long was born Saturday May 7, 1921 in Clarendon Jamaica. She was the fifth child of Arthur and Beatrice Lovelace. After the death of her mother, Minna at a young age was sent to live with her Aunty Ms. Alexander in Kingston.  There she attended school and various private schools. Minna accepted Christ at an early age. Along the way she met Leopold Francis; from there they had 4 children: Ruth Francis Foreman, Frederick Francis, Michael Francis and Celia Francis Morrison.

Minna migrated to the United States on September 2, 1962. She attended many churches. While living in Spokane, Washington, she married Mr. Long, and then moved to Evanston, Illinois, to be closer to her daughter, Ruth, son Michael and grandchildren. Minna was an avid reader; with a love for reading the Bible and learning about history. She wrote many beautiful poems and published her first book called "My Childhood Experience," in the late 70's. She enjoyed spreading her graceful word around to all who would listen.. She took her Bible everywhere she went. She would give her last dime to anyone that would ask. She overflowed with generosity and kindness, which she passed down to her four children. Minna went on to train as a Certified Nursing Assistant and thereafter filling numerous jobs as a caregiver for the elderly.

She retired at 72 years old. On September 20, 2019 the Lord called her youngest daughter Cecelia home to be with Him.  A few months later, Friday December 27, 2019, the Lord called her home. She was 98 years old.

A Time To Cherish

She leaves behind a daughter, Ruth Francis Foeman, 2 sons, Frederick and Michael Francis; 3 half-siblings, David, Vena and Ivy Lovelace; 18 Grandchildren , 25 Great-Grandchildren and 6 Great-Great-Grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Visitation held 9:30am Friday, January 10, 202 at the Evanston First SDA Church, 1825 Dodge Avenue, Evanston IL 60201. Time of service at 10am, Pastor Jimmy Lee Atkins, Jr. officiating. Interment Bohemian National Cemetery, 5255 North Pulaski Road, Chicago, in Lot 374 of Section 30.
