Carmel Mary Tekdogan, 90 of Evanston, passed away December 6, 2018 at the Evanston Hospital. She was born May 6, 1928 in Boston Massachusetts, the daughter of John Raymond Meehan and Margaret Meehan, nee Hughes. Preceded in death by her husband Mehmet Muhlis Tekdogan, MD, who passed away August 13, 2014. She met her husband at the Evanston Hospital where she was head dietician and he a cardiovascular surgeon. When the couple where first married, they went back and forth between Evanston and Turkey. In Turkey, she started the first dietetic program in the hospital while her husband was the first man to do open heart surgery in Turkey. Her father was an electrical engineer, operating Fishback and Moore, a company which did electrical work at O'Hare Airport, McCormick Place in Chicago and the Panama Canal. on her husband's retirement, the couple returned to Turkey where he brought medical equipment from America and taught doctors state-of-the-art medical technic in open heart surgery, kidney and liver transplant as well as in-vitro fertilization. A model during her younger years, she was a long time member of St. Mary Parish in Evanston. She is survived by her children, Ali of Evanston, Suzan(Mark) Maddox of Buffalo Grove, Deborah of Northfield, Sherry(Derek)MacLean of Las Vegas NV and John of Evanston. 9 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Interment private. A memorial mass will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, December 22, 2018 at St. Mary Parish, 1012 Lake Street, Evanston.
